Just imagine, one nurse giving that many meds to one patient in one day, but one nurse has 25 patients! There is another problem !

Thanks for posting up your frustrations. That was how I felt yesterday when I went to work. Not enough nurses on the floor is really frustrating and dangerous. Not only did I try to give out meds to 49 residents (and please tell me how that is possible to do in the 2 hours with proper documentation and 7 GT feelings? Yeah, it’s not possible), but there were family members with questions and residents with conditions that needed to be reported to the physician, treatments and more. Unless they really want to provide good care, they would have a lower ratio that is always maintained.
It is amazing that anyone would think it possible to administer that many meds and still be able to accomplish anything else! Would like to hear what kind of environment you work in ie:SNF/ALF?
I’m currently working per diem at a SNF and I recently started night shifts at the hospital on a med-surg unit. I’ve only worked for about a month or so but I can already pick up on the differences between the work environment and things that desperately need to be improved!
I feel that since I am not working at the SNF full time that I would be able to voice my concerns more readily compared to someone who depends on the position. But I guess I’ll find out down the road!
Any employee, full time or PRN,should be able to voice their concerns to management! However, when you are new, make sure that you bring ideas for solutions with you, and follow the chain of command! Also be positive and enthusiastic about your input!
